The Library Support Staff Round Table (LSSRT) focuses on library support staff—who support staff are and what we do—as well as developing skills and support programming for library support staff. Process
In July/August, after being seated as President, the appointing officer fills the fall appointments which are the award and evaluation committees. Volunteer forms are collected and reviewed from the time the incoming president assumes office and throughout the entire term for new positions that will need to be filled as well as replacement positions. Clicking “Submit” on the review page enters your form in the database and creates a final receipt page which details your volunteer requests. Return to the form (another login may be required to reset the form) to make selections from your other membership groups.

You must be a dues paying member of NMRT to serve on a committee. The Rainbow Round Table promotes the development, advancement, and improvement of library services and resources for LGBTQ+ individuals and their communities. The NMRT is a place for members who are new to the library profession, new to ALA, or new to both. It provides career development programs, professional development grants, and networking opportunities. The GNCRT supports library staff in all aspects of engaging with graphic novels and comics, including collection development, programming, and advocacy.
A round table is a membership unit established to promote a field of librarianship not within the scope of any single division. Although it cannot commit the Association by any declaration of policy, a round table may recommend policy and action to other units. Members of ALA may join those round tables for which they are eligible by payment of the specified dues. (Bylaws Article VII.) Below are links to opportunities within each of the various round tables for involvement.

Committee Term Lengths and Frequency of Service

Committee appointments last for one year or two years (depending on committee), beginning at ALA Annual (July 1 – June 30) and ending at the next ALA Annual Conference. Publications & Communications Committee – The Publications & Communications Committee promotes and documents the activities of the IFRT.

The American Library Association carries out its work through a member-driven structure of committees and subcommittees, Divisions, Round Tables, and several other types of groups.

The IFRT Members Community group is the central hub for discussion, library and events. It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation. The RMRT provides an avenue for retired or late-career members to maintain relationships, continue meaningful organizational involvement, and share sills and knowledge through mentorship. Through community, education, and advocacy, the MAGIRT leads and inspires information professionals in their work with map and geospatial information resources.
I’m thrilled to announce that ALSC’s committee volunteer form is now online. We are transitioning to ALA’s online committee form, which, while not highly customizable, will allow you to share more thorough open-ended responses. I will start making appointments to process committees later in January (for appointments that begin following Annual Conference 2017), so now is a great time to think about volunteering. The ALSC appointing officer is committed to working with volunteers to find an appropriate spot for as many as possible. The Vice-President/President-Elect begins making process committee appointments in February/March.
